FIDIC is the French acronym for the International Federation of Consulting Engineers. (Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs Conseils). FIDIC forms of contract are used extensively throughout the world for projects in construction industry. In India also, many Govt agencies such as NCRTC, MPTDC and others are using FIDIC contracts. Most bespoke contracts of various agencies of Indian Govt are also loosely based on FIDIC contracts. In International construction projects, most contracts are FIDIC contracts.
FIDIC contracts, their interpretation and management needs specific learning. This two-day Programme aims to empower Project managers, Contract Administrators, Senior management, Finance and legal professionals with clauses and practical aspects of FIDIC contracts and their interfaces with legal issues. I am senior management professional, Civil Engineer and an Army veteran with 37 years of diverse proven skills in construction Project and Contract management, Administration, handling legal and arbitration cases, disaster management and above all leadership. My initial experience as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers ( up to Colonel ) was of military engineering ( handling of explosives, construction of prefabricated buildings, water supply schemes etc), operations, logistics and administration, in extremely remote and difficult areas in India and abroad.
During the last ten years, I have held the appointment of Chief Engineering Military Engineering Services, Public Works Dept and Ministry of Defence, VP of a manufacturing company and Head of Training of RICS ,S. Asia.
I have the experience of successfully managing construction projects as Chief Engineer in three most difficult areas of India- Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar islands. Apart from my basic qualification of Civil Engineering, I have formal qualifications of MBA and PGD ip in Personnel management and Industrial relations.
I have cross functional experience of administration security, logistics, construction management and contracts due to my varied tenures in Army, MES, Ministry of Defence and PWD. I have extensively studied FIDIC and construction laws of various countries across the world and am presently doing Doctoral research in solutions for delayed payments in Indian construction industry. I am passionate about learning and writing and have contributed professional articles for various journals.

Course Agenda
- The two-day programme provides a structured and practical understanding of FIDIC contracts, starting with an overview of contractual arrangements in the construction industry and the fundamentals of FIDIC. Participants will gain clarity on why FIDIC is used globally, the role of FIDIC guides, key differences between the 1999 and 2017 editions, and the correct selection of FIDIC forms through a group assignment based on a case study. The programme also covers core provisions of FIDIC contracts, including the duties and responsibilities of the Employer, Engineer, and subcontractors, ensuring participants understand how contractual roles interact in practice.
- The second day focuses on contract administration and risk management under FIDIC, covering commencement, delays, entitlement to Extension of Time (EOT) through real-life case studies, and risk allocation. Participants will discuss practical project scenarios involving suspension, termination, handling of defects, claims, and dispute mechanisms under FIDIC contracts. The programme concludes with a group assignment based on taking over and defects, reinforcing learning through practical application and collaborative problem-solving.
